A Circle Skirt With Little Circles On It ^_^

Autumn and winter will not thwart my skirt wearing! Lately I’ve been accumulating skirts of longer lengths and thicker fabrics, preparing for another Midwestern winter. Though it’s still August, the air already is whispering of the season change.

(During the shoot a clan of belligerent lobsters came and clobbered off my left foot...I still can't find it anywhere.)

I picked up this skirt recently, and I daresay my closet will see others like it in the future. Long, full skirts like this melt my heart and make my knees weak. They’re just so romantic, and it’s close as I can get to the lavish fashions of the late 19th century without people wondering what play I’m rehearsing for.

I adore this cameo ring above all cameo rings. You can't see too well in my photos, but there are three women outlined here...I like to think they are goddesses ^_^

Actually -I confess- I also picked up an even longer and fuller skirt than this one merely for my own delight...Yes, I’m aware: I’m kind of a dork.
I love a good pair of cozy sweat pants like anybody else, but I really would wear a corset, crinoline and hat on a daily basis if it were still socially acceptable.

It's Only the Real World

"Careful"
By Paramore

I settle down
A twisted up frown
Disguised as a smile well
You would have never known
I had it all but not what I wanted
'Cause hope for me was a place uncharted
And overgrown

You'd make your way in
I'd resist you just like this
You can't tell me to feel
The truth never set me free
So I did it myself

You can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you won't come any closer
You've got to reach out a little more
More
More
More
More

Open your eyes like I open mine
It's only the real world
A life you will never know
Shifting your weight to throw off the pain
Well you can ignore it
But only for so long

You look like I did
You resist me just like this
You can't tell me to heal
And it hurts remembering how it felt to shut down

Can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you won't come any closer
You've got to reach out a little more
More
More
More
More

The truth never set me free
The truth never set me free
The truth never set me free
So I'll do it myself

You can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you won't come any closer
You've got to reach out

Can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you won't come any closer
You've got to reach out more

Jack

This ensemble strays far from my typically girlish attire, but I sort of like that about it. I feel very relaxed and comfortable in my structured, boyish threads.

Whenever fashion challenges gender roles, I always get a little excited. I like when traditional culture ideals are pressed and changed in fashion (and in other areas as well). When I discovered that in the 18th century young boys wore dresses up to age 10, I was intrigued. They were not allowed to wear pants during this part of their life because, supposedly, the flowing fabric of dresses allowed for better growth. Nowadays, if a young boy put on a dress, he would be severely, severely ridiculed. Dresses are for ladies. Ties are for men. Those are the rules. But why? Does a woman need a dress in order to be recognized as a woman? Does a man need pants in order to be recognized as a man? If gender does not change the quality of a person, why must it be distinguished at all?

How do you feel about all this? I'd love to hear other insights.

Back to School

Though I will miss the freedom of summertime, I’m looking forward to fall and my sophomore year of college. Last semester I dared to make friends with some classmates, so I’m hoping I’ll by chance be in class with them again. It’s always nice to have a few buds who will secretly make fun of the teacher with you ;)
I’m particularly looking forward to Intermediate French. The entire class is conducted in French, which may prove challenging, but it will be wonderful. I feel like my voice -fairly light and lilting- sounds better in French, but that could just be my imagination. Today my professor (she is a doll) brought us éclairs. In the past she has brought pain au chocolat, madelines, and crêpes. I don't know how any French people stay thin...all the pastries! So good.
I’ll also be taking Introduction to Fiction and Magazine Production, which is my way of indulging my literary fancies. When I transfer to a four year college, I'll major in creative writing, so hopefully these classes are just a taste of what literary deliciousness is to come. I’ll be sure to update my Current Reads page if I come across any intriguing literature.

Then there’s World Religions, which I’m taking to fulfill a credit requirement, but I think it shall be interesting nonetheless. I believe it’s important to have an understanding of various religions and cultures. If we don’t, how can we expect to reach out to people?
Are you taking classes this fall? What is your course of study?

Cigarettes, Birth Control and Musty Suitcases

After a delicious lunch at Noodles & Company, my dear friend Angel and I decided to go antiquing at the local mall. The expedition produced some worthwhile finds, others comical, and others not so wonderful. It was a good day...

Fais les valises!

Chubby Owl! He ate all the cookies.

These glasses are bi-ficals...Aren't they fantastic?

Have a coke and a smile, darlin.

Nasty old sofa...I'm such a great friend...I made her sit on it...mwahahahah

This is Morris and Helen...They are immigrant, homeless camels from Egypt.

Earrings in the shape of cigarettes...I love the coincidence of the "No Smoking" sign.

1950s Handbag...Now a part of my wardrobe!

Antique apron...I shall be baking cupcakes in the near future!
Birth Control Pill Instructions: Place pill on the inside of left knee, then bring right knee to press firmly on the pill's opposite side. This method of birth control is proven 100% effective.

Decorating with antique film reels is sort of trendy, but I still like the idea.

I want everything in this photo...especially the hatboxes!
Those poor children in the photo look miserable, and all she could do was mock them....hahah!

I purchased that lace skirt! I couldn't resist!

More owls! So cute!

I love my best frann! She's the Lucy to my Ethel.

It's Nine in the Afternoon and Your Eyes Are the Size of the Moon

"Nine in the Afternoon"...Don't you just love that notion of impossibility?

"Nine in the Afternoon"
by Panic! At the Disco

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah we're feeling so good

Pickin' up things we shouldn't read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It's just the end of the world

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can

Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good

Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?

Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what I mean

Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began, hey
Back to the room where it all began
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon

Woodland Nymph

While on my nature "hike" today, I came across a coyote. Yes, that's right, I crossed paths with a coyote and failed to capture the moment on camera. Fascinated and frightened at once, my mind somehow rationalized that clicking the shutter would send the coyote into a predatory frenzy, so instead, I kept very still. For approximately fifteen seconds the coyote and I stood motionless, staring at one another, studying one another, until he casually walked into the bushes. I felt incredible...like a mountain woman, a free spirit, or perhaps a woodland nymph.

Dans Mon Sac à Main

Asking a girl what she keeps inside her handbag is a rather intimate question. Nevertheless I shall answer it since the IFB Project asked so nicely ;)

Tearing apart my bag, I felt rather pleased with how low-maitenance it is. What's inside:

Red Wallet --because you can't go shopping very well without money, you know
Leather Journal --because inspiration seems to hit at the strangest times, and writing on the backs of shopping receipts is not very organized
Pen and Pencil --because sometimes I'm in the mood for ink and others I'm in the mood for changing my mind
Floral Zipper Pouch --because some things a lady likes to keep secret
Burt's Bees Lip Balm --because lipgloss and lipstick make me feel sticky and fishy and unnatural
Hair Tie --because some days my curls get the better of me
iPod and Headphones --because even vintage girls like a little modern technology

What do you keep in your handbag?
