The Cooliest Person in the Universe

I'd like to introduce you all to the cooliest person in the universe: my handsome love Josh. Today we are celebrating our fourth year together though we have been in love for a little over six. (We were shy about it at first, considering we were in the eighth grade and all.) We're both relatively introverted, so our first interactions were through hand-written notes (which, yes, I still have) passed between our lockers. Now we freely talk about anything and everything. Josh is a film student, and unfortunately, he hates having his photo taken, so it's rare that I get shots of the two of us. But this past weekend we went to Pioneer Days together, so I can finally show you how good looking he is ^_^

La Petite Chatte

This is my darling 11 year old kitty Pea. If you’re thinking gosh, she looks maniacal, that’s because she is.  She’s a regular kitty dictator, and though she is the smallest of them all, she rules the other pets in the household with an iron paw. She hates most people, tolerates a select few, and only shows affection to me.
She can be cuddly and sweet, when she chooses, like any other kitty; and shenanigans and all, Pea is my most favorite furry friend. Perhaps it is her shenanigans that endear her to me.

Her hobbies include:
Stalking me
Playing chase/hide-and-go-seek
Singing opera at 3am
Commandeering any and all empty boxes - she will rule them all
Napping atop the warm cable box
Sneaking into open dresser drawers
Making the bed - or rather, keeping the bed from being made
Staring contests

Ain’t she cute?

Do you have any pets? I’d love to hear about them! If you'd like, send photos and a bio of you and your pet, and I'd love to feature the two of you on my blog. You can send photos here: quirkypoet471@gmail.com. Some things are just too cute not to share ^_^

You Should Be Wilder

This dress is just so twirly and unavoidably makes me think of this song.....

"Electric Twist"
by A Fine Frenzy

You should be wilder, you're no fun at all
Yeah, thanks for the input
Thanks for the call

With dull knives and white hands
The blood of a stone
Cold to the touch, right
Right down the bone

But you give me the electric twist and it kicks like kicks like a pony
And true, you might get away with it
It's a risk, it's a risk yeah

Picked from a hot grove, packaged for sale
It drips down the sleeve
Gets under your nails
A loss of the senses
A chip off a tooth
The smells of the city
They ride in your suit

He says don't think don't talk
Don't think
Don't think don't talk
Don't think
Don't think don't talk
But I don't think I want to

'Cause you give me the electric twist and it kicks and it kicks like a pony
And true, you might run away with it, it's a risk it's a risk yeah
Because it kicks yeah
It really kicks yeah

And the touch of your lips it's a shock not a kiss
It's electric twist, it's electric twist

And the touch of your lips it's a shock not a kiss
It's electric twist, it's electric twist

And the touch of your lips it's a shock not a kiss
It's electric twist, it's electric twist

And the touch of your lips it's a shock not a kiss
It's electric twist, it's electric twist

He says don't think don't talk Don't think
Don't think don't talk Don't think
Don't think don't talk
But I don't think I want to

'Cause you give me the electric twist and it kicks and it kicks yeah

And true, letcha get away with it, it's a risk it's a risk yeah

You might get away with it
It's a risk yeah
But it kicks yeah
It really kicks yeah

Squirrels!!!

I love shirt dresses...they make for such delightfully low-maitenance outfits. Plus the acorn print is odd and wonderful, is it not? Acorns make me think of squirrels. And I like squirrels. They're fuzzy and adorable. Like kittens!!!

When I was a little girl -like two years old probably- there was a sociable squirrel that would come visit my mother and me. We would feed it corn from a tiny wicker basket, and so it became our friend. It's one of the few memories I have retained from my two year old life.

And with that fond memory in my head, I'm off to school, where flocks of geese run rampant. And geese are neither nice nor fluffy. Not like squirrels. I don't like geese.

So Apparently My Blog Is Great...

Thanks to the Bow Tied Beauty who nominated me for this spiffy little award here. If you've never visited her blog, you definitely should! Especially since I'm a fuddy-duddy and deprive all of you with my lack of make up skills.

So this award means I get to tell you 7 random things about myself, as well as passing on the award to 7 other lovely bloggers.

In order to accept this award you must:

-Thank and link back to the person who awarded you
-Write 7 random things about yourself
-Award 7 other lovely bloggers.

Are you ready?

1. I have the craziest dreams ever. You'd think I'm schizophrenic. In one of my favorite adventures, I was a ninja with all sorts of badass ninja powers.

2. I'm a sophomore in college, studying creative writing. Even though I'm studying creative writing, school makes me feel uninspired and I scarcely write anything while I'm in school. Rather counter-productive, I know.

3. I have five pets...three cats, two dogs. But it's ok. I work at a veterinary clinic, so I'm allowed to have a zoo.

4. I love the French language. It's the sexiest on the planet.

5. I listen to music constantly. Without ceasing. I detest country music, and my favorite is heavy metal. That's right...I'm a metal head.

6. I'm kind of a hippy, and the workaholic mindset of America makes me nauseous.

7. My favorite book of all time is Alice in Wonderland...and I've had my writing compared to this work on multiple occasions.

And I nominate the following lovely bloggers for their outstanding awesomeness:

Ruffles and Sequins

Fashion Junk

Amelia Garcia

Pretty Birdie Brown

Vintage Rose

Short of Something

La Fille D'Or

After receiving this award, I thought perhaps it was time I compiled an About Me page, so that will be up shortly as well. Thank you everyone for reading and commenting. I always enjoy hearing from you. You're just lovely.

And on a side note, stop by The Chicago Uniform Project to see a feature about my vintage shop! Sarah is wearing a few of my pieces, and she looks amazing.

Poetic Shenanigans

Over the weekend, I met up with a couple of my lovelies at the local mall, where we forced our poetry upon passers by. Oddly, they didn't seem to mind or really notice our ramblings.  We stood in the middle of heavy crowd flow, unabashedly reading our pieces, and most people glanced our way but immediately resumed their own conversations. It was an awkward yet amusing experience. I read a haiku in the elevator, and the following video is a recording of the piece I read while standing in front of Macy's. It's titled "At the Piano."

( I'm so cool now...I know how to use iMovie :P )

If you're interested in reading/hearing the pieces by my beautiful friends, you may visit them here:
