Frank's Gone Missing

Dear Frank,

I'm sorry for leaving you in that nasty women's restroom. But I was only trying to protect you from drowning by placing you on the edge of that stark white sink. I hope you can forgive me.

I came back and searched everywhere for you, but I suppose someone else has snatched you up by now. I hope she treats you with kindness, but I know that nobody will love you in such an illogical way as I do.

Stay off the drugs, Frank.
And if you should ever find your way home, there will always be a place for you in the flowery tea cup next to Dexter and Eliza.

Happy As A Lark

Ok, so I look severely pouty in these photos, but that is the total opposite of how I'm feeling!
This Saturday I leave for New York for the media arts conference, and I am completely thrilled!

I'm going with a group of people from my journalism class, which will be delightful because they are delightful people, but I still wish I could take my Josho with me (sigh).
But anyhow...I have a few plans formulating in my little curly head. I'm desperately wanting to visit central park and a few organic restaurants in the area. Unlike my town, NYC actually has options for people who hate eating chemicals. So as you can imagine, I'm happy as a lark ^_^

I'm also planning to visit whatever shops are in Times Square. Anyone know of a vintage shop in that area? I'd love an authentic 50s dress as a souvenir! In fact, I'm packing my suit case full of food so that I can save most of my food money for a dress instead. Priorities, people, priorities!

I Hate Jeans

It's true. I hate jeans. I own a few pairs so as not to seem like an American pariah, but I hate wearing them. Especially the hip huggers. With a long waist like mine, low-rise jeans = plumber's crack. And that's not lady-like or attractive by any means. (I know I'm not the only one this happens to! I've been to WalMart!)

So when I found this pair of retro bell-bottoms, I fell in love. They're corduroy and a delicious chocolate brown. So comfortable. Ahhh...my new pants and the spring sunshine have made for a very pleasant afternoon.

Au Revoir

Unfortunately, due to an insurmountable life schedule, I'm struggling to keep up with my little vintage shop. (I'm even struggling to keep up with my blog alone!) With how many cockamamie schemes I come up with in a day, I'm certain there will be future endeavors to come. But until then, I'm saying goodbye to my shop.

But don't cry! This is good news for you! In order to diminish my inventory (and free up some space in my miniscule closet) I'm giving everything away for 30% off. Including clearance! Just use code AUREVOIR at checkout.

These are just a few of the items on sale right now. Click here to peek at the rest! I have labels such as Ralph Lauren, St. John's Bay, and many more. My vintage pieces range from the 1940s-1990s.

And I promise next week there will be more outfit posts. Until then, click here to peruse previous outfits. Thank you, lovely friends, for reading and for allowing me to be human, frazzled and frizzy sometimes.

Kore

"I have watched your smile in your sleep
and I know it is the boat
in which my sun rides under the earth
all night on the wave of your breath
no wonder the days grow short
and waking without you
is the beginning of winter

"How is it that I can hear your bird voice now
trickling among the ice towers
through the days of the anvil
as the year turns I carry an echo
over my own stones and I listen
my eyes are open looking ahead
I walk a little ahead of myself touching
the air where nobody sees you
and the sun as it sets through the forest of windows
unrolls slowly
its unrepeatable secret
all the colors of autumn without the leaves

"You were shaking and an air full of leaves
flowed out of the dark falls of your hair
down over the rapids of your knees
until I touched you and you grew quiet
and raised to me
your hands and your eyes and showed me
twice my face burning in amber

"Already  on the first hill with you beside me
at the foot of the ruins I saw through the day
and went on without pausing
loving the unheld air
as a wing might love it flying
toward you unknowing
knowing

"When they are together our hands are of an age
and a dark light flows up between them
into its feathers
We have brought
nothing with us
but what has come of itself
we pass the stone fragments
the ancient smiles holding out
no hands
like the trees their sisters born older

"I trust neither memory nor expectation
but even the white days of cities
belong to what they do not see
even the heart of the doubters' light is gold
even when you are not with me
in the flowerless month of the door god
you look at me with your eyes of arrival

"Thirty days after the solstice
forms of ripe wheat
emerge from the tips of the branches
Far outside them
here
where you have never been
I reach for you with my eyes
I call you with my body
that knows your one name

"Days when I do not hear you
it seems that the season flows backward
but it is only
I
of hollow streets
deaf smoke
rain on water

"We cross the smooth night lake together
in the waiting boat
we are welcomed without lights
again and again we emerge by day
hand in hand
from all four corridors at once
under the echoing dome
guided by what has not been said

"The shadow of my moving foot
feels your direction
you come toward me
bringing the gold through the rust
you step to me through the city of amber
under the moon and the sun
voice not yet in the words
what is spoken is already
another year."

Vintage Jedi

I tell no lies. I thrifted this beautiful vintage trench coat for a grand total of 49¢.

And it's fully lined. And it's warm.

Makes me feel kinda dumb for buying a trench coat from target a couple months ago for $20, thinking that was a nice price for a basic trench. But I was young and naïve then.

So how did I manage such a thrifty win? Well, during my most recent excursion to the Salvation Army, I discovered that each Saturday, the clothes marked with the color of the week are all 49¢ from 4pm to 8pm. Pretty cool, right?

So, no, I'm not really a Jedi, capable of mind-tricking people into giving me pretty clothes for mere pennies.

Rajesh's Sweater Vest

For those of you who have not yet seen my “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty” post, this is probably news to you: I’M OBSESSED WITH THE BIG BANG THEORY. Picking a favorite character is impossible since they’re all incredibly brilliant and have their own distinctive styles, but I have quite a fondness for Rajesh Koothrappali. He’s just so endearing.
Along with our mutual affection for sweater vests, Raj and I have a lot in common. The most obvious similarity is our pouty, puppy dog, brown eyes. Aren’t we precious?

In social situations Raj is usually the fourth wheel on the tricycle, poor baby. I too end up the wall flower in most social scenes, not that I mind much. Actually, I prefer it. That’s where Raj and I are different.

Though Raj is from India, he hates Indian cuisine. I don’t care much for it either, but I don’t care for the spicy, burn-your-taste-buds-off kind of food anyway.
Raj does practice Hindu religious principles when it suits him, and he practices yoga. I practice yoga on a semi-daily basis, too. Like Raj, I like to use yoga to calm my mind in uncomfortable social situations.

Raj is frightened to death of women. He uses yoga techniques so that he can stand in the same room as them “without urinating.” I’m not afraid of women (considering I am one), but the tiny, angry Vietnamese ladies at the nail salon my mom likes frighten me just a little.

And I should mention that Raj is a brilliant astro-physicist. Well, I’m no physicist, but I got a B in my astronomy class last year. So we could talk about solar flares and other space stuff if Raj had consumed enough alcohol to make conversing with me comfortable.

Goals, Promises, Resolutions

This is the first year I've made resolutions and documented them. I can see why people enjoy it so much. Optimistically laying out plans for the next year freshens and inspires the spirit in a way. So here are my resolutions for 2012 (though I prefer to think of them as goals or little promises to myself).

A lot of this is to do with time management. Being a college student is taxing on personal time. I always promise myself not to allow college to subtract from what I love or to subtract from how many hours of sleep I have each night. Nothing is so important that it should deprive me of my life.

What are your goals for this year? I have a feeling mine will extend far beyond this little list. 2011 was a rather challenging year for me, so I'm sure 2012 can only be better!

The Adventures of Meep and Merp

Josh's gift was by far my favorite to give this year. I invested much time into it, and it is such a perfect manifestation of our relationship. Seeing Josh laughing so hard was the highlight of my Christmas. All the doodles, which I made into a sweet little book, are by me, and they are snapshots of our adventures together. The girl owl is Meep, and the boy is Merp.

I hope my little owls have brightened your day :)
What was the highlight of your Christmas?
