Little Delights: Birthday Cupcakes

So my birthday is tomorrow (I'm a whopping 20 years old!), and as Birthday Queen, I demand enough cake so that I may have a bit of it every day for at least a full week. Otherwise it just isn't a proper celebration. Today someone at work made me some cupcakes that look like owls! The way to my heart: owls and pastries.

yummm...each of these recipes is all natural...c'est délicieux et parfait...

-I have made these, and they are very unique and delicious-

I'll be back tomorrow to show you what saccharine ensemble I choose to wear for my birthday :D

Pomegranate

This weekend I tried a pomegranate for the very first time. I enjoy exploring the realm of food. Josh tells me I'm a weirdo, but sometimes, even though I detest coffee, I like to taste it just so that I can remember its bitterness. I just like experiencing tastes. As with scents, I feel it engages memory and connects a person to nature.
And so, the pomegranate, my most recent food adventure...

Peeling it was a rather gory process. The fruit sort of bled everywhere, squirting onto the floor, the countertops, my dogs (who were investigating), and me. The luscious red juice inspired this outfit. (Inspiration strikes at strange moments for me.)

As I was carving out the innards of the fruit, I felt like I was opening a honeycomb and plucking out all the bee larvae. Creepy, I know. I was surprised I felt like eating it after such a comparison.

It was such a  lengthy process, but YES it was worth it...very very worth it. The pomegranate seedlings are DELICIOUS. I ate some and put the rest in a container. They'll stay fresh for up to 7 days! Plus, a pomegranate is full of awesome nutrients, including antioxidants, which help fight aging factors. And I'm all for that!

Delightfully Delicious

Tehee...Pardon my cheesy titles...I just love alliteration.

This weekend is going to be delicious all the way through. I’m not one who likes cooking much out of duty, but on occasion it is fun to create something scrumptious. I started this weekend off by making this recipe from Cooking Light magazine. Didn’t they turn out pretty? I was rather proud of them. I served it with a salad, but I’m sure it would go equally well with a tomato basil soup.

Then I made a smoothie for dessert...because it would be tragic to go a whole day without something sweet. MMMMM. I love summertime for all the fruit.
2 tsp. passion fruit juice concentrate (I used Langer’s because it’s all-natural)
5 large(ish) strawberries, sliced
1 banana
3 tbsp. all-natural vanilla yogurt (Dannon is my favorite)
1 cup Very Vanilla Silk (at least I think it was a cup...I sort of eye-balled it)
After indulging in these treats, I ventured outside in this equally delicious dress that I thrifted a couple weekends ago. The flippy skirt makes me feel like a dancer, and the pattern makes me think of The Secret Garden.

I love the little details of this dress. The silhouette is simple, but the straps are actually split into two. And the back swoops so gracefully. Even though it's casual, it makes me feel elegant.

More goodies to come, my dears!
