Mon petit placard.

So this is my little bedroom and my closet. The reason the closet appears so sparse is because all the clothes are piled on the bed after laundry day. My room tends to be rather chaotic, and none of my bedding matches. But what did you expect of a quirky poet?

I kind of like taking photos in here...being inside means I get to listen to music. And then pose ridiculously because I’m dancing around like a five year old watching Spongebob.
I also get to be with my bestemest furry friend Pea, who likes all my mismatched blankets.

    Vintage Jedi

I tell no lies. I thrifted this beautiful vintage trench coat for a grand total of 49¢.

And it's fully lined. And it's warm.

Makes me feel kinda dumb for buying a trench coat from target a couple months ago for $20, thinking that was a nice price for a basic trench. But I was young and naïve then.

So how did I manage such a thrifty win? Well, during my most recent excursion to the Salvation Army, I discovered that each Saturday, the clothes marked with the color of the week are all 49¢ from 4pm to 8pm. Pretty cool, right?

So, no, I'm not really a Jedi, capable of mind-tricking people into giving me pretty clothes for mere pennies.

It's my birthday. I can wear what I want to.

Since being 20 years old means I sort of have to be a grown up, I have to spend my birthday at my internship and in college classes. So this outfit is a bit polished and includes a blazer...because I try to look serious when I’m at my internship.

Although I’m twenty years old now and am told I’m rather sophisticated for a girl my age, I still am a whimsical, young spirit. Proof:
    1. I still sleep with a teddy bear
    2. my favorite book is a children’s book (Alice in Wonderland)
    3. I wear t-shirts with animals on them, and this dress has foxes on it
    4. I own a substantial owl collection (which is a step up from the Barbie collection of my tenth year) and each of them have names
    5. my favorite food is cupcakes
    6. and doing headstands is probably my favorite activity right now

Later today I have to do "show and tell" for my French class, and I'm taking along this purse. This is probably the first time I've ever been thrilled about the prospect of talking in front of people. I'm hoping my professor will be impressed when I say Mon sac à main a quatre-vingt ans. An "A" would be a nice birthday present.

Thank you everybody for the sweet wishes yesterday. Someday I will invent a device that will allow me to share cupcakes with you through my computer monitor.

    A Wind With Fingers Goes

"They dropped like flakes, they dropped like stars,
    Like petals from a rose,

    "When suddenly across the June
        A wind with fingers goes.

"They perished in the seamless grass,—
     No eye could find the place;

"But God on his repealless list
        Can summon every face."

                                                          —— Emily Dickinson

    Christmas Sweater

As much as I love receiving gifts, I enjoy giving them much more. I think a gift is always a reflection of both the receiver and the giver. When I pick out something or make something for a friend, I always consider their tastes, but I always put a piece of myself into it too. So that it's something they will see and think of me.

I also love wrapping the presents for people. Though we aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, or a present by its package, I like for the wrapping to be pretty and special. This year I even made my own name tags for all of them with personal doodles. Meep!

Christmas is always Pea's favorite time of year. She likes to climb the Christmas tree and take naps at the top, and she likes to help wrap the presents, too. She's obsessed with paper and plastic bags and anything else that makes a crunchy noise when she steps on it. Sorry, friends, if your present has wrinkly paper. It was Pea's contribution.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

The first snow of the season always holds magic in it. Every powdery snowflake whispers Christmas. I never quite feel Christmas-spirited until after all finals have been done with and we are graced with snowfall -- no matter how little it is.

Now I feel it. And I have all sorts of fun Christmas ideas sparkling in my mind. This next week is going to be lovely.

Speaking of lovely, I've really fallen for this vintage dress. With its thick fabric and rare long sleeves, it's the perfect winter dress. Despite the snow and the prickly air, I didn't feel cold at all. A dress like that is magic in its own rite. Though repeating is supposedly a faux pas, I might have to repeat this outfit for Christmas.

    EWOK!!

I can't say I'm thrilled with this entire look, but I feel cozy and I do LOVE this hat...so much :)

When trying on this hat, I was essentially frolicking through the store. I was with my mom at the time, and she was just giggling at me (as she often does because I'm a bit of a shenaniganizer). She told me I had to get the hat because it makes me look like a little ewok. And I love ewoks*.

    Meep!

Look inspired by Freckles in April.

*No ewoks were harmed in the making of this hat...or in the making of this post, for that matter.

    Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty

If you have never watched The Big Bang Theory, you must add it to your to do list. Sitcoms tend to be rather --um-- not funny, but this one is the best I've seen since Seinfeld. Jim Parsons plays Sheldon, and this character is brilliance. Sheer brilliance, I say. His borderline autism and multitude of quirks make for some intense hilarity. Anywho...my train of thought travels such random pathways. This necklace makes me think of "Soft Kitty" every time I wear it...

    Pomegranate

This weekend I tried a pomegranate for the very first time. I enjoy exploring the realm of food. Josh tells me I'm a weirdo, but sometimes, even though I detest coffee, I like to taste it just so that I can remember its bitterness. I just like experiencing tastes. As with scents, I feel it engages memory and connects a person to nature.
And so, the pomegranate, my most recent food adventure...

Peeling it was a rather gory process. The fruit sort of bled everywhere, squirting onto the floor, the countertops, my dogs (who were investigating), and me. The luscious red juice inspired this outfit. (Inspiration strikes at strange moments for me.)

As I was carving out the innards of the fruit, I felt like I was opening a honeycomb and plucking out all the bee larvae. Creepy, I know. I was surprised I felt like eating it after such a comparison.

It was such a  lengthy process, but YES it was worth it...very very worth it. The pomegranate seedlings are DELICIOUS. I ate some and put the rest in a container. They'll stay fresh for up to 7 days! Plus, a pomegranate is full of awesome nutrients, including antioxidants, which help fight aging factors. And I'm all for that!
