Au Revoir

Unfortunately, due to an insurmountable life schedule, I'm struggling to keep up with my little vintage shop. (I'm even struggling to keep up with my blog alone!) With how many cockamamie schemes I come up with in a day, I'm certain there will be future endeavors to come. But until then, I'm saying goodbye to my shop.

But don't cry! This is good news for you! In order to diminish my inventory (and free up some space in my miniscule closet) I'm giving everything away for 30% off. Including clearance! Just use code AUREVOIR at checkout.

These are just a few of the items on sale right now. Click here to peek at the rest! I have labels such as Ralph Lauren, St. John's Bay, and many more. My vintage pieces range from the 1940s-1990s.

And I promise next week there will be more outfit posts. Until then, click here to peruse previous outfits. Thank you, lovely friends, for reading and for allowing me to be human, frazzled and frizzy sometimes.

Where I Am

Though I don’t have the pleasure of attending the IFB Conference this month, I will be making a trip to NYC in March for a writing conference. This will be my first time in New York. While I’m incredibly thrilled, I’m also incredibly frightened.

See, I’m directionally challenged. Navigation is not one of my talents. I get lost in my own town, so I will likely be meandering hopelessly through the streets of New York with a GPS system in my hands and a glassy, bewildered expression in my eyes.

Thinking about what I’ll wear there...probably exactly what I wear when I’m home. I don’t worry much about fitting into my environment. I don’t fit in here, so it makes no difference to me whether or not I fit into the New York aesthetic.

Clothes aren’t so much about where I am geographically. I dress according to where I am in my mind. (And according to the temperature because no matter how strong the will, I cannot conquer the climate.)

People often ask me why do you wear that. I like to dress as though I’ve just climbed out of a novel. I like to look intriguing and whimsical because that’s where I am in my mind. I wear it because I like it. Because it makes me feel good about myself and good about my world. Because it’s comfortable. Because it inspires me and tells a story. Why would I wear something that didn’t accomplish those things?

Why do you wear what you wear? Does it depend upon where you are on the globe?

Christmas Sweater

As much as I love receiving gifts, I enjoy giving them much more. I think a gift is always a reflection of both the receiver and the giver. When I pick out something or make something for a friend, I always consider their tastes, but I always put a piece of myself into it too. So that it's something they will see and think of me.

I also love wrapping the presents for people. Though we aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, or a present by its package, I like for the wrapping to be pretty and special. This year I even made my own name tags for all of them with personal doodles. Meep!

Christmas is always Pea's favorite time of year. She likes to climb the Christmas tree and take naps at the top, and she likes to help wrap the presents, too. She's obsessed with paper and plastic bags and anything else that makes a crunchy noise when she steps on it. Sorry, friends, if your present has wrinkly paper. It was Pea's contribution.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

The first snow of the season always holds magic in it. Every powdery snowflake whispers Christmas. I never quite feel Christmas-spirited until after all finals have been done with and we are graced with snowfall -- no matter how little it is.

Now I feel it. And I have all sorts of fun Christmas ideas sparkling in my mind. This next week is going to be lovely.

Speaking of lovely, I've really fallen for this vintage dress. With its thick fabric and rare long sleeves, it's the perfect winter dress. Despite the snow and the prickly air, I didn't feel cold at all. A dress like that is magic in its own rite. Though repeating is supposedly a faux pas, I might have to repeat this outfit for Christmas.

Just Peachy

This outfit has so many delightful pieces to it. Normally I don't wear sequins just because they make me feel flashy and like a flapper, and that sort of style doesn't really fit me. BUT this scarf is the exception. I think that, because it's in a small amount and it's on such a lovely crocheted scarf, it suits me.

Then there's the bow. I am wearing these bows on everything lately. They're so convenient! They add just the right whimsical touch. Don't you agree? Beauty and pleasure are in the details.

And I would be remiss if I did not gush about how amazing this purse is. It's made entirely of plastic, which I know isn't exactly eco-friendly, BUT it was the 1930s when it was made. Everybody wore real fur made from chinchilla and fox then, too. But that's beside the point. IT'S GORGEOUS! It belonged to my great-grandmother, who I never knew. I like carrying this purse and wondering about what she was like. My mother tells me she was very sweet. I like feeling that connection to the past.

And, since I am a person who believes in giving credit where credit is due, I'd just like to take a moment to thank my dear little Pea for helping me get dressed...

...and also for being so freaking cute ^_^

Think Fancy Thoughts

This weekend, I celebrated my dear friend Courtney's birthday at this delightfully sophisticated restaurant/club/bar. Since I am but a poor college student, it's a place much more upscale than I'm used to (even the bathrooms looked rich!), so the motto of the evening was think fancy thoughts. And I think it worked.

Here's some snapshots from the evening:

The menus were so fancy they had French words in them like crème fraiche. Mhmm. And my lemonade came in this sexy little glass:

Courtney loved her Christmas/Birthday present so much. It's a good feeling when somebody adores what you pick out for them.

Here are some better shots of what I wore:

One of my friends loved this sweater and asked where I had gotten it. When I told her it was from Goodwill, she said in frustration, "Of course it is." Hahah. I enjoyed that exchange. This outfit earned me lots of compliments, which proves that you can look rich and fancy without spending like a rich person.

Do you have any special celebrations planned for the holidays?
